Mumba was named as one of the Summit League's Top-30 Distinguished Contributors in 2011. He was the 2004-05 Conference Indoor Athlete of the Year and the 2004 Outdoor Athlete of the Year. Mumba won 10 conference championships in six different events over his four-year career, and he still holds the Summit League record in the 4x400m relay event. A five-time NCAA Qualifier in the 800m run, Mumba earned both indoor and outdoor All-American honors in 2005-06 in addition to an All-American nod in 2004. Additionally, Mumba qualified for the 2012 London Olympics, and was the flag bearer for Zambia in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.
