Smith has been the head trainer for numerous sporting events in Tulsa, including the annual Oklahoma High School Coaches Association All-Star Game 23 times. He also served as the head athletic trainer for the NCAA Midwest Regional Basketball Tournaments held at the ORU Mabee Center in 1974, 1975, 1978, 1982 and 1985. In 2013, Smith was inducted into the OATA Hall of Fame.
