Scouting the Opponent:
St. Thomas heads into the weekend with an 11-10 record after being swept in two mid-week games at Kansas. The Tommies are off to a good start in Summit League play, however, with a 5-1 start featuring a sweep over Omaha and a series win against South Dakota State.Â
Â
Offensively St. Thomas is led by Max Moris leading the team in batting average at .395 and RBIs at 26. Matthew Maulik is right on his heels with a .370 average to go along with a team-leading three homers and 25 RBIs. The Tommies' batting average would rank 9th in DI at .328 but they're ineligible for the NCAA Tournament as a part of their transition from DIII so it does not qualify amongst the national ranks.
Â
Walker Retz has paced the Tommies on the bump in 2025 sporting a 2-0 record with a team-leading 3.67 ERA in 27.0 innings of work. All five appearances for him have been starts and threw a season-high 6.2 innings against the Jackrabbits on March 22nd. Right-hander Marcus Kruzan has been the Friday starter for the last three weekends with a 3-0 record and 8.31 ERA in 21.2 innings. St. Thomas' team ERA comes in at just over eight (8.06) surrendering 177 runs, 155 earned.
Â
UST has struggled in the field over the course of the season with a fielding percentage of just .957 committing 31 errors along the way, and turning 12 double plays.Â
