DALLAS, Texas – After a win on Friday night, the Oral Roberts baseball team looked to claim a series victory against Dallas Baptist on Saturday. The Golden Eagles did just that, winning Saturday's game against DBU by a score of 7-6.
DBU got on the board in the second inning with a two-run home run, before ORU got a run back in the fourth inning.
Ryan Cash led off the inning with a stand up double to right center before
Adam Oviedo drove him in with a single through the left side.
The Patriots added a run in the bottom half of the fourth to push their lead back to two runs.
For a second consecutive day, ORU put up 5+ runs in an inning when they added a five run fifth inning. The inning was highlighted by a pair of doubles from
Alec Jones and Cash, before
Adam Oviedo launched a three-run home run well over the DBU bullpen in left field.
The Golden Eagles added a run in the top of the seventh when Oviedo dropped down a squeeze to score Cash from third. The Patriots got a run back in both the seventh and eighth innings to cut the Golden Eagles lead to two.
In the top of the ninth, DBU knocked a ball over the wall in left center to cut ORU's lead to just one before
Adam Scoggins slammed the door shut, picking up his first save on the season.
Turning Point
The Golden Eagles were able to capitalize on a pair of DBU defensive miscues in the fifth inning, which extended the inning long enough for
Adam Oviedo to launch his second home run of the season – A three run shot to left center. Three of ORU's seven runs in the contest were unearned.
Inside the Box Score
- ORU claims their first series win against Dallas Baptist since February 26-28, 2016 when the Golden Eagle took two of three games in Dallas.
- Dallas Baptist dropped back-to-back games for the first time in the 2021 season. The last time DBU lost consecutive games was in the 2019 Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.
- Adam Oviedo drove in five runs in the game, highlighted by his three-run home run in the fifth inning. The mark is Oviedo's career-high for a single-game.
- Tanner Rogen was excellent in the contest, picking up his first win of the season. The redshirt senior went 6.0 innings, allowing four runs and striking out four.
- ORU's pitchers allowed just one walk throughout the game
- The Golden Eagles roped three doubles in the contest, coming just short of their season-high of four against Little Rock.
- Joshua Cox extended his reached base streak to thirteen games.

After claiming the series victory on Saturday, the Golden Eagles will go for the sweep against DBU on Sunday at 1 pm. The last time ORU swept Dallas Baptist was a three-game set on April 7-8, 1989 in Tulsa.
