Box Score
TULSA, Okla. - Matt
Brandy went two for four at the plate and drove in a pair of
runs, but it wasn't enough as the Dallas Baptist Patriots topped
Oral Roberts, 4-2.
Down two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, Brandy came
through with two outs and Brandon
Healy and Logan
Domenico on base, singling to left field to score both
runners.
Domenico was the second batter of the inning, reaching on a
fielder's choice after outrunning a potential Patriot double-play.
He then moved to second after a four-pitch walk, drawn by Healy,
and both runners advanced a base on a groundout.
The Brandy single tied the game at two runs apiece.
Domenico picked up a double in the second inning, Tyler
Boss doubled in the fourth and Jose
Trevino doubled in the seventh. Unfortunately, each accounted
for three of nine Golden Eagles that were left on base in the
game.
In the top half of the inning, DBU added their second run of the
afternoon on a solo home run off the bat of Austin Litsi.
The first run of the evening came in the top of the third. Nash
Knight's jersey was grazed by a pitch to lead the inning off,
advancing to second on a balk, then third on a passed ball.
Patiently awaiting his opportunity through the succession of
sequences that allowed Knight to move over, Jaime Garrido
eventually drove Knight in with a single to right.
In the eighth, Garrido singled again, this time to lead off the
inning, moving to second on a passed ball, then to third on a
sacrifice bunt by RJ Talamantes and eventually scoring on another
passed ball.
Ronnie Mitchell scored the final run of the evening as he was
driving in on a single by Knight.
The Patriots equaled the Golden Eagles with seven hits on the
evening, each coming from the seven, eight and nine hole hitters.
Garrido ended with three, while Litsi and Knight added two
each.
Earning the loss for the Golden Eagles was Alex
Gonzalez (1-3). The junior right hander completed eight
innings, striking out 10 along the way. It is his second
double-digit strikeout performance of the season.
Michael Smith was the pitcher of record for the Patriots.
ORU (5-7) looks to snap its current three game losing skip
tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. when they face DBU in the second of a
three-game set at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
