ORU Falls in 10th Inning of Game One to North Dakota State, 3-2

FARGO, N.D. – Kenny Beese hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Oral Roberts University baseball team suffered its first conference loss this season by a score of 3-2. The Golden Eagles fell to 21-11 overall and 11-1 in Summit League play.

Luke Otto led off the bottom of the 10th with a single to centerfield, and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt before Beese drove him in with a single to left field.

ORU junior right-hander Jerry Sullivan (Lake Budd, N.J.) pitched a gem in the loss, allowing one earned run on six hits in 9.0 innings while striking out 14 and only walking two.

P.J. Sequeira (Petaluma, Calif.) broke a scoreless tie in the top of the seventh with a lead-off home run to right field. The long ball was Sequeira's fifth of the year and extended his hitting streak to a season-high 11 games.

The Golden Eagles tacked on another run to take a 2-0 lead in the inning when Tyler Garewal (Bakersfield, Calif.) also extended his hit steak to 11 games with an RBI single to left field.

The Bison answered in the bottom of the seventh scoring two runs to knot the contest. Zach Wentz and Zach Heidmann led off the inning with consecutive singles and advanced on an error. A wild pitch and a sacrifice fly evened the contest at 2-2.

North Dakota State threatened in the bottom of the eighth as Kenny Beese led off with a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Sullivan then struck out Tim Jallen for his 75th punch out of the season and induced a fly-out by the next batter to escape the inning.

The Golden Eagles left two runners on base in the top of the ninth but couldn't score a run. Robert Barbosa (Dallas, Texas) led off with a single up the middle and Garewal was called out on a questionable interference call on a sacrifice bunt attempt, which sent Barbosa back to first.

Sullivan struck out the side in order in the ninth inning to force extra innings. Sullivan struck out the side three times in the contest.

T.J. Kelly (3-1) suffered the loss after allowing two hits and a run in the 10th inning, while Alex Chaput (2-0) picked up the win after giving up only one hits in 3.1 innings.
