ELMHURST, Ill. -- Oral Roberts' Brian Van
Kirk and
Mark Serrano were named The Summit League's
Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for their
performances in the four-game sweep of Oakland last weekend, the
league office announced.
Van Kirk collects Player of the Week honors after helping Oral
Roberts to a four-game sweep Oakland last week. He had a hit in all
four games, including three multi-hit games and two three-hit games
for a .500 average on the week. The senior had a .944 slugging
percentage, tallied eight RBI, six runs, two doubles and two home
runs in the four games.
Serrano claims his second Pitcher of the Week award this season
after pitching a complete-game shutout over Oakland last week. The
junior recorded a career-high nine strikeouts, while giving up only
three hits in the 11-0 Golden Eagle win. He limited the Golden
Grizzlies to a .097 batting average and had a no-hitter through 4.2
innings.
ORU travels to Wichita, Kan. today to play nationally-ranked
Wichita State at 7 p.m.
