Late Surge Secures #ORUBASE Series Win at Omaha

OMAHA, Nebraska – The Oral Roberts baseball team secured the series win Saturday night in Omaha, scoring 12 runs over the final four innings.
 
Golden Eagles starter Nathan Love (3-1) earned the win after tossing 6.0 innings, striking out four while allowing just one run. Maddox Thornton closed the game, striking out two and issuing no walks.
 
The game remained scoreless through the first three innings, with both teams putting two on base. ORU struck first when Cooper Kelly singled to left field, driving in Cooper Combs, who had doubled earlier in the inning.
   
The Mavericks evened the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the frame with a solo home run to left.
 
The Golden Eagles regained the lead with three runs in the sixth. Martell Davis and Kelly opened the inning with singles before catcher Matthew Mainord delivered the go-ahead RBI single to center, scoring Davis.
 
Will Edmunson followed with a two-RBI double to left center.
   
ORU added four more in the seventh, beginning with Combs doubling to left center. He advanced to third on a Davis single and later scored on a groundout. Mainord and Hudson Ellis added RBI singles to extend the lead to 7-1, and Makani Tanaka capped the inning with a bases-loaded walk.
   
The Golden Eagles pushed the lead into double digits in the ninth. Mainord and Edmunson drew walks, and Ellis was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Tanaka was then hit by a pitch to bring in a run. Kane-Yates followed with a two-RBI double to make it 11-1.
 
He later moved to third, and Tanaka scored on a wild pitch. The final run came when Kane-Yates scored on a Combs groundout, sealing the 13-1 victory.
 
Reliever Brayden Curtis (1-2) was charged with the loss after allowing three runs on four hits in one inning of work.

The Golden Eagles will go for the series sweep Sunday at 1 p.m.
