EUGENE, Ore. – Justin Quinn delivered a walk-off two-run single and the Oral Roberts baseball team evened its best-of-three series against Oregon with an 8-7 victory Saturday night in the Eugene Super Regional from PK Park.Â
With the win, the Golden Eagles became the third No. 4 seed in NCAA history to force a winner-take-all game three in the super regionals. The victory also marked the fifth time in program history ORU has registered 50 wins in a season and the first since 2004.Â
Trailing 7-6 in the ninth, the Golden Eagles, who were the designated home team, loaded the bases with only one out as Quinn stepped to the plate. The senior delivered with a two-run single down the left-field line to walk it off for ORU.Â
Cade Denton, a Collegiate Baseball All-American, earned the win to improve to 2-1 on the year after tossing 3.1 innings and striking out three. In relief, Caleb Isaacs tossed a scoreless frame and struck out one. Harley Gollert got the start and struck out six over 4.2 innings.Â
Quinn finished 3-for-5 with two RBI, while Blaze Brothers and Drew Stahl joined the senior with multi-hit performances. Center fielder Jonah Cox extended his hit streak to 46 games, which ranks fifth all-time in NCAA history. The junior has now hit safely in 61 of the 62 games this season.
After Oregon struck first in the second on a solo homer, the Golden Eagles answered with three in the bottom half of the frame to jump in front, 3-1. Stahl brought home a pair with a two-run single through the left side and Brothers plated the third run of the frame on an RBI single up the middle.
The Ducks evened the score, 3-3, in the fourth with a two-run homer to left-center. Once again, ORU responded in the bottom half of the frame as Mac McCroskey, who reached on a leadoff single, crossed the plate on a double play to give the Golden Eagles a 4-3 advantage.
Oregon regained the lead, 5-4, in the fifth courtesy of an RBI single and an RBI double. The Ducks tacked on two more runs in the seventh on a two-run triple to right-center as their advantage grew to 7-4.Â
ORU chipped into the deficit in the seventh behind an RBI double from McMurray and pulled to within one in the eighth on a Cox solo shot to straightaway center. The long ball marked the 11th of the campaign for the junior.Â
In the ninth, back-to-back singles from Jacob Godman and Brothers followed by a McMurray walk loaded the base with only one out. Quinn plated Godman and Brothers on the two-run single down the left-field line as ORU walked off the Ducks, 8-7.
