OMAHA, Neb. – A Mac McCroskey go-ahead solo home run in the eighth propelled the Oral Roberts baseball team to its third straight sweep Saturday afternoon as they rallied from a four-run deficit to defeat Omaha, 8-5, from Tal Anderson Field.
The series sweep marked the Golden Eagles' fourth of the season and third in Summit League play as they improved to 9-0 in conference action.
Lefty Caleb Isaacs earned the win in relief after throwing 1.2 scoreless innings and striking out two. The victory moved the junior's record to 4-0 on the season. Right-hander Cade Denton logged his seventh save of the year and second of the weekend after striking out three in two scoreless frames.
McCroskey stayed hot at the plate as the redshirt senior went 2-for-3 with two homers and three RBI on the afternoon. The Springdale, Arkansas, native also walked twice in the win. In the nine spot, Sam Thompson came through with one of his best performances as a Golden Eagle as the junior went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.
The Mavericks plated a run in the first, two in the second and one in the third to jump out to a 4-0 lead.
In the fourth, McCroskey cut the deficit in half, 4-2, with a two-run blast over the left-field wall. An inning later, Thompson tied the game with a two-run homer to right-center.Â
The momentum continued for ORU in the sixth as Holden Breeze put the Golden Eagles in front, 6-5, for the first time on the afternoon with an RBI single to left. Omaha responded in the bottom half of the frame with an Eddie Satisky RBI single that evened the game at 6-6.
On a 1-0 count in the eighth, McCroskey belted his second homer of the day, a solo shot to left-center, to put ORU back in front, 6-5. The multi-home run performance marked the third of McCroskey's career and second this season.
Later in the frame, Thompson delivered with his third RBI of the contest as the junior plated Drew Stahl, who reached on a walk, to extend the Golden Eagle advantage to 7-5.
Stahl recorded the final run of the contest for either side in the ninth as the junior scored Justin Quinn, who reached on an error, with a sacrifice fly.
