TULSA, Okla. – Caleb Denny launched a three-run home run and
Ledgend Smith tossed six strong innings as the Oral Roberts baseball team routed Pacific 14-2 in game one of Saturday's doubleheader at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
Smith allowed one run on two hits and recorded nine strikeouts to pick up his second win of the season.
Brooks Fowler pitched three innings in relief, allowing one run on two hits to pick up the save.Â
Denny set the tone in the first with a three-run shot to left field, plating
Dustin Demeter and
Mac McCroskey. The homer was the redshirt sophomore's second in as many games.
Pacific got a run back in the third on a Chaz Myers RBI double to left-center to cut the ORU lead to 3-1. Denny answered in the bottom half of the frame with an RBI double to left-center and Loftin later followed with a run-scoring single up the middle to stretch the lead to 6-1.
An RBI single from McCroskey in the fourth pushed the advantage to 7-1.Â
Two more runs came across to score for ORU in the fifth as Loftin brought home Demeter on a sacrifice fly and
Justin Quinn poked an RBI single through the right side to score
Holden Breeze, pushing the lead to 8-1.
In the sixth,
Jake McMurray plated
Joshua Cox with an RBI double, Demeter scored McCroskey on a sacrifice fly and Breeze capped off the inning with a run-scoring single through the left side to extend the lead to 11-1.
ORU added three more runs to their total in the seventh to stretch the lead to 14-1. Cox delivered an RBI single to left, McCroskey plated a run on a double to right-center and
Isaac Coffey drew a bases-loaded walk.
Caden Duke homered to left in the eighth for the Tigers to make the final 14-2.

TULSA, Okla. – Jackson Loftin and
Alec Jones went yard as the Oral Roberts baseball team registered their eighth straight win and swept Pacific with a 15-3 victory in game two of Saturday's doubleheader at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
With the win, the Golden Eagles are off to their best start since 2008 (9-2). The victory capped off an undefeated eight-game homestand, marking the first time ORU has accomplished that feat since 2005.
AJ Archambo collected his second win of the season after tossing five innings of two-run baseball and striking out seven.
Reed Ronan and
Cade Denton combined for three scoreless innings out of the pen.
Mac McCroskey sparked a five-run first inning with a leadoff triple to start the frame. The redshirt junior crossed the plate on an error by the Pacific center fielder to open the scoring.
Caleb Denny drove home the second run of the game with an RBI double to right-center.
Loftin followed with a two-run shot to left field and two batters later, Jones delivered a solo homer to left to make it 5-0, ORU.
The Tigers got a run back on a sacrifice fly in the third to cut the lead to 5-1. Jones had the response for ORU in the bottom half of the inning as the redshirt junior plated Denny with a sacrifice fly.
Colby Canales cut into the Golden Eagles lead, 6-2, with a solo home run in the fourth.
An RBI triple to right by
Justin Quinn brought home two more ORU runs, extending the lead to 8-2 in the bottom of the fourth.
The Golden Eagles exploded for seven runs in the seventh to push their lead to 15-2. McCroskey, McMurray and Loftin all registered RBI singles in the frame.
Dustin Demeter brought home a run on a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded and Denny registered an RBI on a fielder's choice. Quinn capped off the big inning with his second RBI triple of the game, scoring Loftin and Denny.
Canales scored the final run of the game in the ninth with his second solo shot of the evening as ORU went on to win 15-3.
