TULSA, Okla. – The Mayor's Cup will stay in south Tulsa as the Oral Roberts men's basketball team defeated Tulsa, 77-66, Saturday afternoon at the Reynolds Center.
 
For the sixth-straight game, ORU had four score in double-digits. Max Abmas led all scorers with a season high 28 points on the day as he shot 11-for-22 overall. Carlos Jurgens scored 12 points while Patrick Mwamba and Kareem Thompson each had 11.  
 
Abmas gave ORU the lead early  with a three-point shot just four minutes into the game. The Golden Eagles led by as much as five in the first, but Tulsa clawed back to tie it with five minutes left. After Tulsa took a two point lead, Abmas hit another three-point bucket to give the lead back to the Golden Eagles. Tulsa's Brandon Betson tied the game, 33-33, with 46 seconds before halftime. After a missed shot by TU, Abmas took the ball down the court with seven seconds left in the half and pulled up from the corner and drained another three-ball to lift ORU to a 36-33 halftime advantage.  
 
In the second half, ORU never let Tulsa take a lead. After the Golden Hurricane tied the game, 40-40, with 17:43 to play, ORU went on a 12-1 run to go up by 12, five minutes later. The Golden Eagles would keep Tulsa at arms-length until the Golden Hurricane went on a 9-2 run to pull to within three with 3:38 to play. The following possession, Abmas drove the ball and scored and was given the and-one to go back up by six. A defense stop on the next possession allowed Carlos Jurgens to shoot the dagger with a three-point shot on the other end to give ORU a nine point lead with 2:14 to go. Patrick Mwamba put the exclamation point on the game with a power dunk as the Golden Eagles would win their second-straight Mayor's Cup game, 77-66.
 
It was a season low from the free-throw line for ORU as the Golden Eagles were only give three free-throw attempts in the game while Tulsa went to the line 17 times. For the first time since 2015 that ORU had won consecutive Mayor's Cup games and the first time since the Golden Eagles had won at the Reynolds Center.

Individual Leaders
Oral Roberts: Abmas scored 28 points while Mwamba, Thompson and Connor Vanover each pulled down eight rebounds.  

Tulsa: Bryant Selebangue had 15 points for TU and grabbed 12 rebounds for a double-double.

- It was the 21st program win over Tulsa and eighth win at the Reynolds Center.

- For the first time since 2015, ORU has one back-to-back Mayor's Cup games.
