VERMILLION, S.D. – The Oral Roberts volleyball team could not recover from an early deficit on the road falling in four sets to South Dakota (21-25, 15-25, 25-19, 19-25) opening the 2019 Summit League campaign Friday night inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.
The Golden Eagles quickly jumped to a 5-1 lead on the Coyotes in the first set scoring in all facets of the contest, but a late run from the home side ended a home set victory.
USD, the reigning Summit League tournament champions, broke a 10-10 tie in the second stanza by scoring 15 of the last 20 points to claim the frame. ORU used a 7-1 stretch early in the third to set the tone and continued to push around the Coyotes to win, 25-19.
The Golden Eagles were unable to carry the momentum into the fourth set as USD scored early and closed out the conference opener for both sides.
Inside the Box Score
- CeCe Madison led ORU with an 18-kill effort and tallied eight digs.
- Sylvia Lawson keyed the defensive effort for the Golden Eagles with a team-leading 15 digs and finished the double-double adding 29 set assists.
- Inka Inkret added seven kills and reached double figures in digs with 13, while Sarah Thiessen totaled 11 digs.
- Taylan Nero and Bri Greenlee each registered three block assists, while Nero led all players with three service aces of ORU's six.
