Golden Eagles Test Coyotes in Home Loss

TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts volleyball team tested Summit League leading South Dakota eventually falling in three sets (22-25, 19-25, 25-27) Friday night at the Aerobics Center.

 

After falling behind early in set one, the Golden Eagles recovered and went on to even the frame 15-15. In what turned out to be a tightly-contested effort featuring nine tie scores and six lead changes, ORU went on to hold a 22-20 advantage. The Coyotes rallied for the final five points to swipe the set despite the home team having a higher hitting percentage.

 

An extended run by USD in the second stanza erased an early lead of the Golden Eagles to take a 2-0 set lead. ORU quickly jumped to a 7-2 margin in the third frame before the Coyotes closed the gap to 11-10. The home side retained a three-point cushion, 19-16, but could not close out the set as the visitors secured the victory after ORU saved three match points.

 

Inside the Box Score

  • Seven different players recorded at least two kills for the Golden Eagles led by CeCe Madison's nine.
  • Taylan Nero paced the squad totaling four block assists and had a solo block as ORU out-blocked the Coyotes by a 7-3 margin.
  • Sylvia Lawson ended the contest registering 21 set assists and added four kills on eight attempts. The redshirt freshman also had seven digs and two block assists.
  • Inka Inkret made the start as libero for ORU and finished with a team-best 15 digs, while Katarina Mikulic also reached double figures with 10.

The Golden Eagles continue a difficult stretch heading to Denver Sunday afternoon before closing the trip at Omaha Tuesday night.
