Oral Roberts University junior libero Bruna Silva was named Southland Conference Defensive
Player of the Week, the SLC office announced today. Silva is the
first ORU student-athlete to be honored with a weekly award by the
conference.
Silva, a native of Niteroi, Brazil, averaged 4.88 digs per set last
week in four matches at the University Plaza Invitational. She
topped the 20-dig mark in three of ORU's four matches at the event,
including a 24-dig effort against host Missouri State on August
30.
For the season, Silva averages 5.14 digs per set, second-best in
the SLC.
Silva was a three-time Defensive Player of the Week in the Summit
League, where she earned Defensive Player of the Year honors in
2011.
Lamar senior Wendy Krell was the SLC Offensive Player of the Week,
with ORU's Tatum Fredeen earning weekly honorable mention
status.
ORU is back in action on Tuesday, when they host Tulsa at 7 pm
CT.
