Macomb,
IL-The Oral Roberts volleyball team broke back into the win column
with a 3-1 (31-33, 25-23, 25-22, 25-16) victory over the Western
Illinois Leathernecks Friday evening at Brophy Hall in Macomb,
Illinois.
Sophomore,
Olivia
Ophus, led an efficient Golden Eagle attack with 12 kills on 28
attacks (.357), while tacking on seven digs in the victory.
ORU held a
14-10 lead in the opening set, before Western Illinois managed to
battle back and eventually edge out a 33-31 win.
It was all
Golden Eagles from that point on however, as the visitors pulled
out wins in the following two sets and used a commanding 14-5 run
to close out the decisive game four.
Jocelyn
Swier chipped in a strong performance of her own, posting 11
kills on a .360 hitting clip, while Serena
Cate rounded out the double figure trio with 10 kills (.381),
six digs and a block assist.
As a team,
ORU hit .213 on the evening with 12 combined blocks, and held the
Leathernecks to a chilly .160 mark.
With the
victory, the Golden Eagles move to 9-12 on the season and 7-6 in
Summit League play. Western Illinois drops to 6-17 overall and 2-12
in conference action.
The ladies
are back in action Saturday night, as they travel to Indianapolis,
Indiana to battle the IUPUI Jaguars. Game time is slated for 6:00
p.m.
