TULSA, Okla. ?" The Oral Roberts University Volleyball
team continued their winning ways Tuesday night, handing Missouri
Valley foe Missouri State a 3-0 (30-27, 30-18, 30-20) loss at the
Aerobics Center. With the win, the Golden Eagles ran their winning
streak to 12 matches.
ORU (14-6) outplayed the visitors across the board, hitting .350 as
a team with 53 kills while the Bears (11-4) hit just .109 with 42
markers. The Golden Eagles also held an advantage in blocks
(15.5-6.0), digs (52-45), assists (48-37), and service aces
(7-0).
Jackie Oliveira (Minas Gerais, Brazil) had the hot
hand for ORU, registering 12 kills - without an error - on 15
attacks to hit a match-high .800. She also had a part in seven of
the team?s 15.5 blocks.
The Golden Eagles took advantage early in game one, turning a 3-2
deficit into an 8-3 lead with a quick 6-0 run. Their lead would
grow to eight points at 14-6 before the Bears began to rally,
closing to within 22-21. But a pair of Ori Zuzic
(Porec, Croatia) kills sandwiched a 4-0 spurt to give ORU some
breathing room at 26-21 en route to a 30-27 game one win.
The home squad then came out on fire in game two, hitting .514 as a
team with 18 kills and no errors on 25 attempts. The Golden Eagles
led by as many eight points through the early going before using an
8-2 run to open up a 28-15 advantage and claiming the 30-18 win.
Zuzic had six kills in game two alone while Oliveira added four of
her own with a 1.000 attack percentage.
Game three was tight through the early going as six ties and a pair
of lead changes left the game knotted at 13-13. ORU would score
eight of the next ten tallies, however, opening up a 21-15 lead.
Missouri State would get no closer than four points the rest of the
way as they hit just .065 as a team in the Golden
Eagles? 30-20 match-clinching win.
Zuzic finished the night with a match-best 16 kills, and
Kim Snow (De Kalb, Ill.) chipped in with seven
kills and eight blocks while posting a .500 attack percentage.
Cris Alves (Sao Caetano, Brazil) anchored the ORU
defense with 17 digs.
The Golden Eagles, now winners of the season?s first
seven home matches, will return to action this Friday night when
they host Mid-Con opponent Centenary to the Aerobics Center for a
7:00 p.m. match. Admission to the match is free.
