TULSA, Okla. €" Sophomore outside hitter Ori
Zuzic's (Porec, Croatia) set a new Mid-Con single-season kill
record as she led ORU to a straight set (30-28, 30-17, 30-23)
victory over conference foe IUPUI Friday night. With the win, the
Golden Eagles (17-13, 9-5) clinch a spot in next weekend's Mid-Con
Conference Tournament at ORU's Aerobic Center.
Zuzic registered 21 kills on the night and now has 556 on the
season, setting a new Mid-Con record. It was also her
conference-leading 16th 20-kill performance. Zuzic hit a blistering
.500 for the match, committing only three errors. She also had a
solid game on the defensive end, contributing eight digs.
Senior libero Becky Dreher (Prince George, British Columbia,
Canada) chipped in with a 33 dig effort, bringing her season total
to 710. Since the inception of the 30-point scoring format, Dreher
is only the fifth player to register 700 digs in a season.
Entering the night, the Golden Eagles needed a win to secure a top
four finish in the conference and a spot in the Mid-Con's
post-season tournament. After playing a tight first game, ORU
refused to let the Jaguars (14-16, 8-5) into the game.
As a team, the Golden Eagle hit .291 on the night while limiting
their opponents to a merger .161. Sophomore middle blocker Maja
Devic (Split, Croatia) hit a game-high .577 for ORU as she added 17
kills on 26 attempts.
Sophomore setter Maura Cicala (Sao Caetano, Brazil) led the Golden
Eagles 44 assists.
ORU will finish off its Mid-Con slate as it hosts Chicago State
tomorrow night at the Aerobics Center. Game time is set for 7:00
p.m. with Senior Night festivities before the game. Admission is
free.
