The Oral Roberts University volleyball team defeated North Texas
3-1 before falling 3-0 against tournament host Wichita State at the
Green Mill Restaurant Volleyball Classic Saturday.
Freshman middle blocker Michelle Withey, in her first start of the
season, led the Golden Eagle triumph over North Texas. Withey
posted an ORU season-high seven blocks, and also had 11 kills with
just one error en route to a .400 hitting percentage. Freshman
outside hitter Ori Zuzic posted a team-high 18 kills. Junior
outside hitter Becky Brunelle contributed a double-double of 12
kills and 21 digs. Freshman setter Brittany Arnold tossed up 46
assists.
ORU lost the final match of the evening to tournament host Wichita
State 3-0 (30-18, 30-21, 30-14). Arnold had 22 assists, and junior
libero Becky Dreher contributed 11 digs.
ORU's record now stands at 3-6. North Texas fell to 4-5, while
Wichita State improved to 5-3. ORU will face Nicholls State
tomorrow at 9:00 A.M and then square off against San Diego State at
2:30 P.M. in continued action at the Green Mill Restaurant
Volleyball Classic at Wichita State University.
