TULSA -- The Oral Roberts University volleyball
team rallied from a 0-2 deficit to defeat Mid-Continent Conference
pre-season favorite IUPUI 3-2 (28-30, 26-30, 30-26, 30-19, 15-4)
Friday evening at ORU's Cooper Aerobics Center.
ORU climbed to 13-11 (5-1 Mid-Con), while IUPUI dropped to 9-11
(3-3 Mid-Con).
A spectacular performance by ORU libero Becky Dreher sparked the
ORU momentum as the Golden Eagles romped over the Jaguars in games
three, four, and five. The 5-5 junior All-America candidate
switched from her regular libero position to outside hitter before
game three and chipped in seven kills. Dreher posted 32 digs on the
night, her third 30+ dig performance this season.
Freshman outside hitter Ori Zuzic led ORU with 28 kills.
Freshman outside hitter Cris Alves had a double-double of 14 kills
and 13 digs. Freshman middle blocker Maja Devic hit .400 and had a
double-double of 13 kills and 11 digs. Devic also contributed six
blocks. Freshman Maura Cicala set an ORU season-high 68
assists.
Reigning Mid-Con Player of the Year Rebekah Pallikan led IUPUI
with 22 kills and 15 digs
In game five, ORU hit an astounding .667, while IUPUI hit
.000.
ORU returns to action Saturday afternoon at 5:00 as the Golden
Eagles take on Chicago State.
