Tim Johnson has announced the hiring of Jason Speegle as the next Director of Tennis for the ORU Men's and Women's Tennis programs.
"Coach Speegle stood out with an impressive pedigree in building incredibly successful tennis programs, both on and off the court. He is a proven, consistent, winner that has produced nationally ranked teams, conference championships, individual champions, and teams that are in line to win national championships," Athletic Director
Tim Johnson said. "More importantly, his teams achieve in the classroom and in the community. He will continue the rich tennis tradition at ORU and build a program to be proud of. The best is yet to come!"
Coach Speegle comes to ORU after serving as the Director of Tennis at Lubbock Christian University (LCU), leading the rebirth of both the Men's and Women's tennis programs after an almost 30-year hiatus. He is a five-time coach of year award winner and the men's team he built at Lubbock Christian is in position to win a Division II national title this year.

In his first season at LCU, he led the women's program to a 14-11 record and their first Lone Star Conference (LSC) Championships berth and post-season victory in program history. That same season, Speegle led the men's tennis program to their first Lone Star Conference Championships berth and NCAA Regional appearance in program history. In 2023-24, the women's program secured their second straight Lone Star Conference Championships appearance to go along with a 20-7 record. The men's program went 18-7 that same year, earning a second straight NCAA Regional appearance.
Speegle spent the previous nine seasons at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. During his tenure he led the women's tennis program to seven KCAC tournaments, two KCAC regular season titles, a KCAC Tournament Championship title, and two NAIA National Championship tournament appearances. On the men's side, the Moundbuilders made the KCAC Tournament Semifinals in 2021, marking their sixth ever tournament appearance. In 2019, Speegle also led the men's program to their first KCAC title since 1970.
Speegle was named KCAC Women's Tennis Coach of the Year in 2015, 2017 and 2019, and KCAC Men's Tennis Coach of the Year in 2019. The ITA named Speegle the Central Region Coach of the Year in 2017. The KCAC recognized Speegle's tennis programs with five combined Team of Character honors, a KCAC all-sports-best 3.8 team GPA in 2016-2017 and a combined 38 student-athletes (24 women and 14 men) were recognized with All-KCAC honors under Speegle's tenure at Southwestern.
Speegle was a tennis student-athlete at Southwestern College from 1996-99, claiming All-KCAC and KCAC Scholar-Athlete honors in 1998-99. He graduated valedictorian in 1999 earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physics with a minor in Business Administration. Speegle also received his Master of Science in Leadership in 2008 at Southwestern.
After graduating college, Jason conducted mission work for six years in the Dominican Republic before returning to Winfield, Kansas, to serve as the director of the Green Team of Southwestern College.
Jason and his wife Amanda have two sons (Edwin and Isaac) and one daughter (Maggie).
