(RV) ORU Dominates Omaha Saturday, 5-2

TULSA, Okla. – The (RV) Oral Roberts men's soccer team handed the Omaha Mavericks their first loss in seven games with a 5-2 dominating performance Saturday evening at the Case Soccer Complex.

The Golden Eagles struck first with a goal by Luis Flores in the 20th minute. Flores took the ball through defenders and as it was deflected by a Mavericks, he gathered the ball back and sent it into the net from 20 yards out. Flores' goal was unassisted and lifted ORU up, 1-0.

Jose Estrada recorded his second goal of the season and in back-to-back games when he sprinted down the middle of the field and received a ball from Damani Harris who gathered it from Schinieder Mimy. Estrada connected with the back of the net in the 39th minute as Harris and Mimy bother garnered assists.

ORU went in to halftime with a 2-0 advantage and out-shot the Mavericks, 12-6. Just seven minutes into the second half, Juan Moreno scored his third goal of the season as he took a deflected ball and sent it through in the 52 minute to give ORU a 3-0 lead. This goal for Moreno was ultimately the game winner. He scored again with his second goal of the night four minutes later in the 56th minute as he received a ball from Reed Berry and Luis Flores. He gathered the pass in the middle and scored to give ORU a 4-0 lead.

Omaha wouldn't go quietly as the Mavericks' Theo Klein sent a rocket shot from 30 yards out just past the out-stretched arm of Jakub Grzesiak in the upper left corner. Sokol Ymeraj was credited with the assist.

The Golden Eagles answered and returned fire with a second goal of the night by Flores. Flores received the ball form Haruki Yamazaki who got it from Harris and sent it into the net in the 68th minute to give ORU a 5-1 lead. Omaha's Adbi Adan answered in the 69th minute to make it a 5-2 game on an assisted goal by Ymeraj.

Saturday's win over Omaha was the fourth-straight over the Mavericks and it extended ORU's home game winning streak to 10, going back to last season.

- ORU out-shot Omaha, 18-13, and had 10 shots on goal while the Mavericks had eight.
- Jakub Grzesiak played and 90 minutes and had five saves. Grzesiak now has a 6-2-2 record this season.
- Luis Flores had two goals on the night giving him nine goals on the season. Flores and Juan Moreno each have three game-winning goals in 2023.
- The Golden Eagles had four corner kicks in the contest.
