GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The Oral Roberts men's basketball program earned its 1,000
th win with the victory at North Dakota, 84-72, Saturday afternoon in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
For the second-straight game,
Max Abmas scored 20-plus points with his 27 point outing to lead all scorers Saturday. Four Golden Eagles recorded double-digits and Carlos Jurgens earned his first career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
A back and forth first half saw both teams lead by as much as four in the first 20 minutes of action. After trailing by four, the Golden Eagles went on a 9-2 run over a four minute span.
Issac McBride went 3-for-3 from long range in the first and tied the game, 25-25, with six to go. He then hit another to give ORU the lead, 28-27, with five minutes left. After trailing by four in the final seconds,
Connor Vanover made a hook shot to send it to halftime with a 39-37 game in favor of North Dakota. Despite shooting 51.6 percent from the field, ORU trailed as UND hit nine three-pointers in the first half.
The ORU defense shutdown UND from the three-point line in the second half only allowing the Fighting Hawks to connect twice from beyond the arc. The Golden Eagles tied the game three times in the second after facing a maximum deficit of five. It was 52-52 with 11:38 to play when ORU regained the lead and held onto it for the remainder of the game. After leading by as much as seven, UND came back to pull to within two with 5:07 to go. The Golden Eagles sparked an 11-2 run to lead by 11 with two minutes to play. Abmas would close out the game with a pair of free-throws as ORU ended with the 84-72 advantage. For the game, ORU shot 54.5 percent from the field.
Issac McBride captured 15 points on the day and
Connor Vanover followed with 19 as ORU improved to 8-0 in Summit League play. The Golden Eagles have at least a two game lead on all other league opponents.

Oral Roberts: Abmas had 27 and Carlos Jurgens pulled down 10 rebounds.
North Dakota: B.J. Omot captured 20 points and Tsotne Tsartsidze grabbed eight rebounds.

- Jurgens captured his first career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
- Vanover has 66 blocks on the season and is second the nation in total blocks and in blocks per game.
- The Golden Eagles improved to 8-0 in Summit League play for the first time since 2011-12. ORU now has a minimum of a two game lead over everyone in the conference standings.
- ORU earned its 1,000
th program win Saturday, dating back to its first win in 1965.
