TULSA, Okla. – Behind a 23-point performance from Hannah Cooper, the Oral Roberts women's basketball team rolled past Central Christian, 100-40, Monday evening inside the Mabee Center.Â
The senior guard finished the contest 8-of-13 from the field and added seven rebounds to go along with a game-high six assists. Cooper's 20-plus point performance was her third of the season.
Ruthie Udoumoh joined Cooper in double-figures after pouring in a career-high 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting to go along with four rebounds. Sharpshooter Delaney Nix was the final Golden Eagle to reach double-figures on the night as the senior totaled 11 points. The Tahlequah, Oklahoma, native also pulled down five boards in the contest.
After Central Christian jumped out to a 6-3 lead with 6:49 remaining in the first, the Golden Eagles responded with a 24-5 run to close out the quarter with a 27-10 advantage. NIx sparked the surge with her first triple of the contest and Lauren Ramey capped it off with one of her own. In the quarter, Cooper paced all players with nine points.Â
The Golden Eagles pushed their lead to 24, 37-13, at the 5:48 mark behind a 10-3 start to the second period. Following a three from the Tigers with 5:33 left in the half, the Golden Eagles' defense clamped down as they held Central Christian scoreless for the remainder of the quarter. During the stretch, ORU scored 16 straight points, led by Nix with six, as they took a 53-16 lead into the break.Â
In the third, the Golden Eagles used a 17-0 stretch that lasted 6:27 to push their advantage to 51, 76-25, forcing a Central Christian timeout. During the surge, 15 of the 17 ORU points came from Cooper (7) and Udoumoh (8). Out of the stoppage, the Golden Eagles expanded their run to 21-0 as they took an 80-25 lead into the fourth.
The Tigers ended the stretch with a 5-0 spurt to open the fourth as the ORU lead was trimmed to 80-30 with 7:56 remaining in the contest. Nena Taylor put an end to the quick Tiger run with a driving layup :13 ticks later. The Golden Eagles closed the contest with 12 of the final 17 points as they cruised past Central Christian, 100-40. Elena Lijo made her season debut for ORU and pushed the Golden Eagles over the century mark with a layup at the :25 mark.Â
THE LEADERS
Oral Roberts: Cooper (23) and Udoumoh (20) both surpassed the 20-point plateau on the evening to lead all players. On the glass, Tirzah Moore pulled down a game-best 10 rebounds.
Central Christian: Olivia Bell (14) and Abigail Contreras (12) were the lone Tigers to reach double figures on the evening.
