Scouting the Opponent
• The Golden Eagles are 2-2 all-time with the Fighting Hawks as both teams defended their home court in back-to-back seasons since UND joined The Summit League for the 2019-20 campaign.
• The Fighting Hawks picked up a weekend split at home against Kansas City to open league play, but have lost six of their last seven games averaging 55.4 points per game in that stretch.
• UND is led in scoring and rebounding by Preseason All-Summit League First Team selection Filip Rebraca as the junior averages 16.5 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Tulsa native Caleb Nero, brother of former ORU volleyball player Taylan Nero, is second on the team at 9.0 ppg.
Quick Hits
• ORU started league play with a perfect, 2-0 weekend at Omaha picking up double-digit wins thanks to the combined scoring of
Kevin Obanor (66 points) and
Max Abmas (62 points). Obanor posted back-to-back double-doubles earning his second Summit League Player of the Week honor for 2020-21.
• ORU is the only team in the nation to have two players ranked in the top 25 of individual scorers as Abmas (21.9 ppg) and Obanor (21.2 ppg) are 19th and 24th, respectively.
• The Golden Eagles are third in the NCAA hitting 12.4 3-pointers per contest, led by Abmas, who sits 10th in the nation individually making 34 total triples.
• ORU finished the 2020 calendar year with a 10-1 record at home inside the Mabee Center and had the toughest non-conference schedule in the nation this season according to KenPom.
• Obanor is closing in on two important milestones as the redshirt junior is one rebound shy of 500 for his career and needs just 27 points to reach 1,000 career points. He ranks seventh in the country totaling five double-double performances, including three straight.
• ORU was picked to finish second in The Summit League Preseason Poll behind only defending regular season co-champion South Dakota State.
• The Golden Eagles have eight new faces for 2020-21 with two grad transfers (
