DENVER – The Oral Roberts women's basketball team fell in its first Summit League game of the season, 89-71, at Denver in game one of the weekend series in Denver, Colorado.
 
ORU started the game strong defensively holding the Pioneers to nine first quarter points and 1-for-9 from three-point range. Although both teams shot less than 30 percent to start the game, ORU capitalized early from the free-throw line going 7-for-8.
 
A three-plus minute scoring drought plagued ORU in the second quarter. The Golden Eagles were up by as much as nine before the drought as Denver went on a 6-0 run before Gem Summers broke the run. Denver tied the game with 6:15 remaining in the second and then took a lead on a free-throws to give the Pioneers their first lead.  A 9-0 run before the half put the Pioneers up by seven, until Summers hit a three to pull within four at the break. Both teams shot less than 30 percent from the field in the first half, but the Golden Eagles trailed 35-31 at halftime.
 
ORU held Denver scoreless for the first three minutes of the second half going on an 11-0 run. The Pioneers went on a 13-0 run of their own to regain the lead by six. Down the stretch, the Golden Eagles trailed by 13 points with 8:40 to play in the game. The Pioneers went up by as much as 22 in the fourth. After hitting a couple of three-point shots, the Golden Eagles ended the game down 89-71. Denver shot over 50 percent in the second half.
 
THE LEADERS
Oral Roberts: Keni Jo Lippe led the team with 16 points and Regan Schumacher tallied nine rebounds.
Denver: Meghan Body recorded 20 points while Uju Ezeudu grabbed 10 rebounds.
