Women's Basketball Falls at Omaha Saturday

OMAHA, Neb. – The Oral Roberts women's basketball team fell at Omaha, 60-54, Saturday afternoon inside Baxter Arena in Omaha, Nebraska.

After going up by as much as four in the first quarter, the Golden Eagles and Mavericks were tied 13-13 at the end of the first. Montserrat Brotons made herself known early in the low-post with four rebounds. Brotons and Regan Schumacher each had four first quarter points. ORU shot 46 percent from the field in the first and made three free-throws.

The Golden Eagles sparked an offensive rhythm with a 9-2 run when Rylie Torrey stole the back and hit an open three-point jumper halfway through the second. ORU took its largest lead of the game when Keni Jo Lippe hit a jumper at the end of the half to put ORU up 37-29. Lippe led the team with 11 first half points. Freshman Nena Taylor went 3-for-4 from the free-throw line in the second. As a team, ORU shot 52 percent from the field in the first half with 16 points in the paint.

Omaha came out in the second half and went on a 16-0 run to retake the lead. The Golden Eagles trailed by as much as eight in the third. ORU closed out the third on a 6-0 to cut the deficit to 47-45. ORU struggled from the field in the third going 4-for-13 overall. The Golden Eagle defense held Omaha scoreless for 3:45 in the third.

The Golden Eagles extended continued the run and extended it to 8-0 to tie the game at 47-47 with nine minutes to play. Omaha regained a four point lead with 3:05 to play. Lippe hit a three-point shot with two minutes to go to bring it within one. Omaha went up by three with 11.8 seconds to play. The Mavericks extended it to a four point lead with 9.7 seconds going 1-for-2 from the line. Omaha stretched the game to a 60-54 advantage.

THE LEADERS

Oral Roberts: Keni Jo Lippe recorded 18 points and Regan Schumacher had nine rebounds.

Omaha: Mariah Murdie scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds.                                                                                                                                                 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- ORU shot 40.8 percent overall in tonight's game.

- ORU out-rebounded Omaha, 33-31.

- The Golden Eagles had a 25 percent three-point average.

- ORU turned the ball over 20 times, but forced the Mavericks to turn the ball over 15 times.

- Keni Jo Lippe scored 18 points with three rebounds.  

- Rylie Torrey recorded 10 points with two rebounds, two assists and two steals.

- Regan Schumacher had a game high nine rebounds.

- ORU had nine bench points in tonight's game and 28 points in the paint.

- Golden Eagles capitalized with 12 points off of turnovers.
