Hot Start Pushes ORU to 67-58 Win Over Omaha

TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts women's basketball team held off a late rally from Omaha Thursday night to close the regular season with a 67-58 victory at the Mabee Center.

The Golden Eagles jumped out to a hot start holding the Mavericks scoreless for the first four minutes of action. ORU never trailed in the game after shooting 41 percent in the first half, however, Omaha rallied to shoot 44 percent in the second half but was never able to fully close the gap.

Faith Ihim paced the Golden Eagles with a double-double scoring 18 points and pulling down 12 boards. She was joined in double figures by Blair Bryce, Maria Martianez and Kaylan Mayberry who each tallied 10, 14 and 13 points respectively.

Caroline Hogue scored a game-high 25 points and finished with six blocks and seven boards to pace the Mavericks in the loss. Mikaela Shaw added 13 points while Remy Davenport tallied 12.

TURNING POINT
Holding to a 43-40 lead with three minutes left in the third quarter, ORU responded with an 8-2 run to end the quarter and take a 51-42 lead into the final frame. Omaha pulled within four points again with 3:01 left in the game, but Mayberry dished to Bryce in the middle of the lane who finished a three-point play at the free throw line to put the Golden Eagles back up by seven and all but seal the win. 

THE LEADERS
Oral Roberts: Faith Ihim posted her fourth double-double finishing with a season-high 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Omaha: Caroline Hogue scored a game-high 25 points and added six blocks and seven rebounds. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- ORU won the rebounding battle for a third straight game and second consecutive with at least 45 rebounds.
- The Golden Eagles held their opponent below 60 points for the third straight game and 11th time this year. ORU is now 10-4 when they allow less than 60 points this season.
- Jordan Doyle did not start for the first time in her collegiate career snapping a streak of 61 straight starts.
- The Golden Eagles shot above 70 percent from the free throw line for the first time since going 15-of-17 against South Dakota State at 88 percent.
- Faith Ihim posted a season-high 18 points and her fourth double-double of the year and fifth of her career.
- ORU sweeps the season series against Omaha and has likely locked up the fourth seed in next week's Summit League Tournament. 

UP NEXT
The Golden Eagles head to Sioux Falls, S.D. for the 2016 Summit League Basketball Championship. With final conference games still to be played Saturday, ORU will likely enter the tournament as the No. 4 seed and open play Sunday, March 6 against the No. 5 seed at noon.
