Oral Roberts University finished the home portion of their 2014
schedule on Saturday afternoon with a 5-2 loss to Incarnate Word at
the Club at Indian Springs. Seniors Parker
Allen and Jack
Busby were honored prior to their final home appearances as
Golden Eagles.
UIW (14-5, 2-3 Southland Conference) started the day by winning two
of three doubles matches. Leonard Ivic and Josip Smoljan dropped
Busby and Jason
Mechali in the top flight, 8-6, while Allen and Amar
Saletovic fell to Jair Assuncao and Tucker Brown, 8-2. ORU
earned their lone pairs win came on the third court, where Michael
Sosnowski and Fabian
Zierleyn doubled up Brandon Davis and Antonio Cavazos, 8-4
ORU (7-11, 0-5 SLC) won the top singles court, where Zierleyn edged
Assuncao, 7-5, 6-3. But the next four courts went to the
Cardinals.
Ivic won on the second court, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, over Saletovic, and
Smoljan defeated Busby in the third flight, 7-6, 6-2. Brown knocked
off Allen at the No. 4 spot, 6-4, 6-1, and Davis bested Sosnowski,
6-2, 6-0, in the fifth.
ORU earned a consolation point on court six, where Cole
Guy defeated Cavazos, 7-5, 6-1.
The Golden Eagles play their next-to-last match of the season on
Sunday afternoon, when they face Tulsa. Match time at the Case
Tennis Center is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT.
