TULSA, Okla. -
Oral Roberts University returned to Southland Conference play
and suffered a 6-1 defeat to Lamar on Saturday afternoon at
LaFortune Park. The loss ends ORU's three-match winning streak.
ORU (4-10, 0-4 SLC) earned their only point of the day at No. 4
singles, where Parker
Allen was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Mikko Rajamaki. The Golden
Eagles also got a win at No. 3 doubles, where Fabian
Zierleyn and reigning SLC Player of the Week Michael
Sosnowski drilled Carl-Phillip Lindqvist and Steven McMullan,
8-2.
But Lamar (12-8, 1-0 SLC) won seven matches, including the top two
doubles courts. Michael Feucht and Juuso Laitinen beat ORU's Jack
Busby and Jason
Mechali, 8-6, on the top court, while Rajamaki and Nikita Lis
won the second flight, 8-1, over Allen and Amar
Saletovic.
On the top singles court, Lis won a battle over Zierleyn, 6-2, 6-7,
6-3. Laitinen took down Saletovic in the second flight, 6-1, 6-0,
and Lindqvist captured the third match, 4-6, 7-6, 10-8 over
Busby.
In the fifth singles flight, McMullan won out over Sosnowski, 6-4,
6-4. The sixth and final flight went to Jeandre Hoogenboezem, 6-3,
6-1, over Cole
Guy.
ORU is back in action on Friday, April 4, when they host both
Arkansas Pine-Bluff and Oklahoma Baptist at LaFortune Park.
