WICHITA, Kan. -
Oral Roberts University was bested by 74th-ranked Wichita State
University, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Genesis Health Club.
The loss drops the Golden Eagles to 0-7 on the season.
The Shockers (8-3) opened the day by winning all three doubles
matches. Matheus Pereira and Tin Ostojic won the top flight contest
over Jason Mechali and Pedro Moreno, 8-2, to give Wichita their first win.
On the second court, Guillermo Nicol and Erick Reyes bested Fabian Zierleyn and Nathaniel Avery, 8-2, while Ilija Cuic and Alvaro Gutierrez won the third court match over Parker Allen and Braxton Bates, 8-2.
In singles play, the Shockers took all six points. Pereira bested
Zierleyn in the top flight, 6-1, 6-0, and Cuic knocked off Mechali
on the second court, 6-1, 6-0. Tomislav Gregurovic won at No. 3
singles over Moreno, 6-0, 6-0, and Nicol won the fourth court over
Allen, 6-2, 6-1.
On the final two courts, Wichita State earned two more wins.
Ostojic swept Avery on court five, 6-0, 6-0, and Gutierrez defeated
Bates on the final court, 6-2, 6-0.
ORU gets back to action on Saturday, March 9 at Omaha. First serve
is set for 2 pm CT.
