NORMAN, Okla. - Oral Roberts women's soccer
sophomore forward Megan
Giles rose to the occasion on Sunday afternoon, scoring the
lone goal as the Golden Eagles defeated Oklahoma, 1-0.
Giles' goal came in the 67th minute, set up by a pass
from Jennifer
Abernathy. It was Giles' second opportunity in the contest to
put the ball in net, taking a late first half shot that was knocked
down by the Oklahoma keeper, Kelsey Devonshire.
The goal was Giles' second of the season, while Abernathy picked
up her first assist.
It is the first victory over a Big 12 opponent since the 2005
campaign when the Golden Eagles topped Texas Tech at home on Sept.
9, 2-1. The Sooners entered the contest fresh off an upset victory
of No. 3 Oklahoma State on Friday night.
Another Golden Eagle sophomore, Shelbi
Lousch, had an opportunity in the final minutes to add some
insurance on the scoreboard, but the shot was sent back by
Devonshire.
The reigning Southland Conference goalkeeper of the week, Helen
Erb, put in another solid bid for the honor for the second straight week as she recorded
eight saves in the victory. Erb improves her record to 2-3-1 on the
season.
The Golden Eagles (3-3-1) continue their road swing just eight
miles from home on Friday as they head across town to take on local
rival Tulsa. Kickoff on the Golden Hurricane home pitch is set for
7:30.
