MACOMB, Ill. - The Oral Roberts men's soccer
team dropped to 3-12 this season on Saturday afternoon as they fell
to Western Illinois, 2-1, despite sophomore Cody Lofgren's third
goal of the season.
With the Golden Eagles trailing 1-0, following a goal from off
the head of WIU's Nathan Bruinsma early in the ninth minute,
Lofgren netted his goal off a free kick from Gerardo Salas. A
junior midfielder, Salas was called upon for the free kick
following a Leatherneck foul, placing the ball in the box, setting
up Lofgren who beat the keeper right post.
Unfortunately, shortly after coming out of the locker room is
the 48th minute, Bruinsma struck again, turning a Golden
Eagle defensive mistake into an unassisted game-winner.
Despite getting credit for his ninth loss of the season,
freshman keeper Ryan Grashik recording nine saves, second most in a
contest by the first year player this season. Grashik knocked down
11 shots against Houston Baptist in the season opener.
To go along with Lofgren's goal, John David James had two of his
three shots on goal, while Tom Adams put a shot on goal as well.
Lofgren took two total shots, as did Marco Hernandez in his first
game back from injury, while Neville Francis, Giffith Poindexter
and Johnny Chavez added one shot each.
The Golden Eagles have two contests remaining this season, each
at home. On Wednesday, they host Division II opponent Newman at 7
p.m., and they close their season next Saturday against conference
foe, Omaha.
Senior day activities will take place prior to the contest
against Omaha. The match itself is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
