TULSA, Okla. - Oral Roberts University swept doubles play and
never looked back, defeating UALR, 5-2, Saturday in women's tennis
action at the Case Tennis Complex. ORU is now 1-0 on the year.
The victory is ORU's first against UALR.
The Golden Eagles set the tone by sweeping the three doubles
matches. In the top spot, Iryna Khatsko and Marizanne Bouwer handled Yana
Kakovkina and Michaela McShane, 8-3. The score was even more
lopsided at the second spot, where Lina Semenova and Hailey Martin won an 8-2 decision
over Viktoriya Plyuta and Alina Kolegova, 8-2. At the third spot,
ORU again won, with Tori Dollar and Kristin Gray beating Nina Yates and Veronique
Luksich, 8-4.
With the doubles point in hand, ORU turned their attention to
singles. Khatsko claimed the top flight match, 6-2, 6-2, and the
Eagles were off and running.
But UALR (0-1) won the next two spots. Plyuta bested Martin, 3-6,
6-2, 6-4 in the second flight, and Luksich won the No. 3 match,
6-0, 6-2, over Semenova.
The Golden Eagles showed their superior depth, however, in the last
three flights. Bouwer outlasted McShane at No. 4, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2,
and Gray came from behind to beat Kolegova, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. In the
sixth spot, Dollar also won a three-setter, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 over
Yates.
Khatsko, Bouwer, Gray and Dollar all won two matches for ORU in the
victory.

Complex tomorrow, when they take on the University of Tulsa. First
