ORU Edges Arkansas State, 3-2

TULSA – Tara Lomas (Pitt Meadows, BC, Canada) scored two of the Golden Eagles' three first-half goals as the Oral Roberts University women's soccer team held on for a 3-2 victory over Arkansas State on Friday night at the ORU Soccer Complex. The Golden Eagles evened their season record at 2-2, while Arkansas State dropped to 3-2 overall.

"We got off to a slow start and did well to get back in the game," said ORU women's soccer head coach Ryan Bush. "I'm very pleased with how we played the last 65 minutes of the game."

Sofia Turesson gave Arkansas State the early 1-0 advantage at the 8:10 mark after making her way through the ORU defense to set up a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper.

Turesson would strike back five minutes later with an assist from Markie McRae and Amy Koss as the Red Wolves stormed out to the 2-0 lead.

Lomas cut the early advantage in half in the 25th minute, firing a goal just over the outstretched arms of the Arkansas State goalkeeper.

Lomas contributed to another ORU goal six minutes later, placing a corner kick that freshman Maria Grados (Stillwater, Okla.) converted off of a header.

With less than four minutes left in the half, Lomas recorded an almost identical shot to her first goal, firing the ball over the top of the goalkeeper for the eventual game winner. Lomas posted her second and third goals of the season in the victory.

ORU goalkeeper Amanda Wheeler posted six saves to earn her second win of the season. Wheeler has 23 saves in the first four contests.

The Golden Eagles more than doubled the shot output of Arkansas State by a margin of 31-14.

ORU will continue competition in the ORU-TU Invitational against Middle Tennessee State at 11 a.m. on Sunday on the campus of Tulsa University.
