Golden Eagles Edged by Arkansas, 4-3

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Oral Roberts University women's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 4-3 loss on Sunday afternoon to Arkansas in Fayetteville. The Golden Eagles dropped to 0-2 on the season, while the Razorbacks improved to 2-1.

Kim Schleif kicked off the scoring for Arkansas with a goal from Kelly O'Connor at the 7:44 mark. The Golden Eagles would answer with less than 12 minutes remaining in the half, as Kaycie Porter (Kingwood, Texas) tallied her first goal of the season.

Freshman Maria Grados (Stillwater, Okla.) gave ORU its only lead of the game at the 56:24 mark for her first collegiate goal. Seven minutes later, Beth McVean knotted the contest back up with an assist from Schleif.

Schleif would dish out another assist to O'Connor less than two minutes later before ORU junior Tara Lomas (Pitt Meadows, BC, Canada) would push the game to a 3-3 tie with a free kick from 20 yards out.

With only nine minutes remaining in the contest, Kathleen Paulsen scored on a bicycle kick from eight yards out to seal the win for the Razorbacks.

ORU only posted five shots on the afternoon, as Arkansas out-shot the Golden Eagles by a 19-5 margin.

Sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Wheeler (Mission Viejo, Calif.) played all 90 minutes, posting a career-high eight saves.

The Golden Eagles will return to action against John Brown at 7 p.m. on Friday at the ORU Soccer Complex.
