BROOKINGS, S.D. Four South Dakota State
players scored in double-figures to lead the Jack Rabbits to a
76-52 defeat over the Oral Roberts University women's basketball
team Saturday evening at the Frost Arena in Brookings, S.D.
ORU
falls to 5-3 on the season and 0-1 in Summit League action, while
SDSU improves to 8-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The Jack
Rabbits now hold a 2-1 advantage in the all-time
series.
Junior forward Janae Voelker (Newton, Kan.) led the Golden
Eagles with 14 points and eight rebounds, while senior guard Mariana Camargo (Blumenau, Brazil) scored
eight points and pulled down five rebounds. Senior forward Monah Pegorari (Sao Paulo, Brazil) had an
all-around evening with seven boards, five points and four
blocks.
SDSU's Ketty Cornemann led the night with a game-high 20 points,
while Jennifer Warkenthien posted a double-double with 15 points
and a game-high 17 rebounds. Kristin Rotert added 18 points for the
Jack Rabbits and Jennie Sunnarborg scored 10.
The Golden Eagles fell early in the first half, as they were down
12-0 with 16:38 remaining. Voelker scored the first point on a free
throw at the 15:45 mark. ORU went down 18-1 with 14:04 to go and
the closest the Golden Eagles got the rest of the game was 12
points at, 18-6, with 12:23 in the first.
ORU shot a measly 32.8 percent from the field (20-61), including
23.8 percent (5-21) from three-point range and 43.8 percent (7-16)
from the free throw line.
SDSU out-rebounded ORU, 47-33, as the Jack Rabbits shot 49.1
percent (27-55) from the field, including 38.9 percent (7-18) from
behind the arc and 75.0 percent (15-20) from the charity
stripe.
The Golden Eagles continue conference action at North Dakota State
on Monday, Dec. 8. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. and is the third game
of ORU's current season-long six-game road trip.
