Roberts University remain perfect in Summit League play with a
76-55 win over Western Illinois, Saturday at Mabee Center.
ORU (12-5, 7-0 Summit) picked up its 22nd consecutive home
conference win, and also won for the 28th time in 30 games against
league foes.
The Golden Eagles led wire-to-wire in capturing their fifth
straight win. ORU raced to a 13-4 lead and led by as many as 14
points in the first half before settling for a 35-22 halftime
lead.
Western Illinois (8-10, 3-4) never got closer than 12 points in
the second half, but ORU had some trouble gaining a more
significant advantage until midway through the half.
The Golden Eagles used an 8-0 run to turn a 51-35 lead into a 59-35
advantage on a layup by
Marcus Lewis (Long Beach, Calif.) with 9:04
left. The lead never dipped below 20 points the rest of the
way.
Lewis and
Moses Ehambe (Arlington, Texas) led ORU with 13 points
each. Ehambe, who entered the game mired in a 5-for-25 (.200)
shooting slump, went 5-for-10 from the field, including 3-of-8 from
3-point range for his first double-figure scoring effort in nearly
a month. Lewis was a perfect 6-for-6 from the field, and added
seven rebounds.
Robert Jarvis (Humble, Texas) scored 12 points off the bench, and
Shawn King (Bequia, St. Vincent) chipped in 11 points, four
rebounds and four blocks.
Western's Jerryck Owen-Murrey and David Jackson each scored 15
points, with Owens-Murrey adding 10 rebounds.
ORU limited the Leathernecks to 32.7 percent shooting for the
game, including just 2-for-11 from 3-point range. The Golden Eagles
shot 52.7 percent (29-55) from the field, including 7-fo-21 from
long range.
By holding Western to 55 points, ORU limited its eighth opponent
to 60 or fewer points.
The Golden Eagles return to action when they visit UMKC, 7 p.m.,
Thursday at Kemper Arena in Kansas City.
