ORU Falls to SFA, 5-1

TULSA – Oral Roberts University's women's soccer team fell to Stephen F. Austin 5-1, in the second round of the ORU Invitational at the ORU Soccer Complex, on Sunday afternoon.

With the loss, the Golden Eagles fell to 3-4-0 while SFA improved to 2-2-3. With the win, the Lady Jacks captured the tournament title while the Golden Eagles finished second.

"Our girls played really hard but this was our seventh game in 14 days and it showed out there. Due to schedule demands, we had to open the season with a lot of games in a short time period," said head coach Kyle Cussen.

SFA's Amanda Alders, who earned offensive MVP honors, had a huge afternoon with three goals and an assist. Alders opened the scoring to give SFA the early 1-0 lead with a goal in the 11th minute.

The Lady Jacks scored two more goals in the first frame, with the third goal coming off the foot of Alders in the 32nd minute.

The Golden Eagles cut the lead to 3-1 with freshman Brittany Winslow notching her first tally of the year in the 40th minute. Winslow received a cross in the box from Lindsey Cook and found the back of the net.

SFA added two more insurance goals in the second frame stretching their lead to 5-1.

Goalie Stef Gurley continues her strong play with 15 saves after facing 29 shots.

"We will put this setback behind us and focus this week on opening conference play against Southern Utah," Cussen added.

Marissa Ranberger, Jordan Miller, and Anna Bickers were named to the all-tournament team for their efforts.

ORU starts conference play this Friday, traveling to Cedar City, Utah to play Southern Utah at 5 p.m.
