TULSA The Oral Roberts women's basketball
team (7-2) had all five starters score in double-digits to cruise
to a 96-79 win over the Missouri State Bears (1-8). The Golden
Eagles remain undefeated at the Mabee Center with a 5-0
record.
Junior Rachel
Watman led all scorers with a career-high 26 points as well as
snatched four steals in the win.
Freshman Whitney
Wehmeyer was the story of the night for ORU, cruising to her
first career double-double with career-best highs of 22 points and
12 rebounds. Junior Mariana Camargo also had a career-night,
snagging her first double-double of her career with 14 points and
10 rebounds and was near a triple-double with nine assists on the
night.
Junior Jenny
Hardin put up 17 points and grabbed eight boards for ORU, while
sophomore Janae Voelker tapped in 11 points and nine
rebounds.
Melissa Busby and Maggie Dwyer led the way
for the Bears, with Busby hitting six trey's to score 24 points,
while Dwyer was 3-for-4 from behind the arc and shot 50 percent
from field-goal range to score 23 points.
The Golden Eagles out-rebounded the Bears
47-34 and were able to outscore MSU 42-26 in the paint.
ORU took an early 11-3, forcing Missouri
State to five turnovers in the first four minutes of the game. The
Golden Eagles would hold MSU to three points until the 13:58 mark
when Tiffany Coppage would nail a three to make it an 11-6 ORU
lead. From there, ORU would go on a huge 36-19 run, leading by as
many as 27 (49-22) to go into the locker room with a 49-25
lead.
The biggest lead of the game came in the
second half when Hardin's layup with 18:22 left to play gave ORU a
28 point lead (57-29). But Missouri State would not go down so
easily, nailing nine three-pointers to come within 10 points
(85-75) of ORU with 2:05 left to play. Rachel
Watman would score six points in the final minutes of the game
to give the Golden Eagles the go-ahead, winning 96-79.
ORU returns to the road on Tuesday as they
travel to Lubbock, Texas to battle the 10-1 Texas Tech Red Raiders.
Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. inside the United Spirit Arena.
