FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.Oral Roberts University went over six
minutes without scoring late in the second half of a 62-51 setback
at Arkansas, Saturday at Bud Walton Arena. The loss snapped ORU's
three-game winning streak.
Leading 45-44 on a three-pointer by
Robert Jarvis (Humble, Texas)
with 8:24 to play, the Golden Eagles (4-3) went scoreless over the
next 6:18 as the Razorbacks (6-1) built a 56-45 lead. Jarvis broke
the drought to make it 56-48 with 2:08 remaining, but the damage
had been done.
The Golden Eagles started the game strong, bolting to a 10-0 lead.
ORU held Arkansas scoreless until the Razorbacks finally tallied
their first points on a Michael Washington layup with 12:42 left in
the half.
Arkansas tied the game at 20 on Patrick Beverly's three-pointer
with 3:38 left, but ORU quickly regained the advantage. Jarvis
scored seven straight points for a 27-24 edge and a pair of free
throws by
Kelvin Sango (Tulsa, Okla.) gave the Golden Eagles a
29-24 halftime lead.
The Golden Eagles pushed the tempo and their lead early in the
minutes of the second half. Layups by
Marcus Lewis (Long Beach,
Calif.) and
Shawn King (Bequia, St. Vincent) sandwiched around a
three-pointer by
Robert Jarvis (Humble, Texas) gave ORU a 36-26
lead with 17:09 to play.
Arkansas gradually used an 11-0 run to take a 37-36 lead on
Washington's jumper with 12:50 to play. ORU regained the lead on a
jump hook by Lewis 45 seconds later. The lead changed hands twice
more before ORU went cold and Arkansas took command.
Jarvis led all scorers with 18 points, hitting on 6-of-12 shots
from the field, including 4-of-8 from three-point range. Moses
Ehambe (Arlington, Texas) scored nine points, while King added
eight points, nine rebounds and four blocks.
Ervin led a trio of Hogs in double digits with 16 points. Darian
Townes scored 14 off the bench and Beverley chipped in 13.
ORU limited the Razorbacks to 44.9 percent shooting for the game,
including 33.3 percent in the first half. ORU shot just 37.5
percent, but went 7-for-18 from three-point range.
ORU next opens Summit League play by hosting league newcomer North
Dakota State, 7:05 p.m., Thursday at Mabee Center.
