TULSA Three players scored in double-digits
for ORU as the Golden Eagles cruised past the Northern Colorado
Bears (1-1) with an 83-56 win.
The Golden Eagles move to 3-0 for the
second-straight season with the help of junior Rachel
Watman's game-high 18 points, five assists and five steals.
Freshman Whitney Wehmeyer had a career-night for ORU,
finishing the game with a personal-best 14 points, while grabbing
four rebounds. Junior-transfer Monah
Pegorari also scored a career-high 10 points for ORU, as well
as snagging four boards in the win.
Junior Mariana
Camargo finished the game with a career-high 10 rebounds and
tied her season-high of five steals, while sophomore Kelly
Kindell got her first career start for the Golden Eagles and
aided ORU with a season-high eight points and career-high five
rebounds.
The Golden Eagles were a force underneath the
net, grabbing 40 rebounds to the Bears 27 with an 18-8 rebound
advantage on the offensive end.
Northern Colorado opened the game on a 5-0 run with the help of
a Jamie Schroeder layup and a Chelsie Luhring trey. The Golden
Eagles would respond with an eight-two run to take a three-point
lead, 10-7. A Kelly Kindell three-pointer would extend ORU's
lead to 28-15 to give the Golden Eagles their biggest lead of the
first half. Both teams would trade points until the halftime break
with ORU going into the locker room with a 34-22
advantage.
A Northern Colorado three by Chelsie Luhring
would open up the second half to close the ORU lead to within nine,
but the Golden Eagles would answer with a nine-two run to take a
43-27 lead. ORU would not look back, extending its lead to 27
points at the 73-46 mark the largest lead of the game
and eventually ending the game with a Demesha
Heard layup to win, 83-56.
The Golden Eagles will have their first road
test of the season as they travel to Conway, Ark., to take on the
Central Arkansas Sugar Bears next Saturday, Nov. 24 at 6
p.m.
