TULSA - Oral Roberts University's men's soccer team scored a
season-high four goals en route to a 4-0 defeat of Northeastern
State, Tuesday night at the ORU Soccer Complex. With the win, ORU
improves to 3-7-0 and 2-0 at home, while NSU falls to 4-7-1.
Juan Chang gave the Golden Eagles the early 1-0
lead with a goal just a little over two minutes into the match.
Chang received the ball from
Jon Gann
at the top of the box, dribbled to right of the defender, and then
delivered the ball into the lower right corner of the net at the
2:35 mark.
The Golden Eagles increased their lead to 2-0 on Jordan
Tatum's first tally of the season. The play was set up by a
nice cross by
Miguel Peralta that found Tatum in the box at the
15:12 mark.
ORU out-shot NSU 11-6 in the first-half, while holding a 3-0
advantage in corner kicks.
The Golden Eagles continued to put the pressure on the RiverHawks
in the early goings of the second-half. ORU stretched their lead to
3-0 in the 65th minute on a goal by freshman Jon
Gann. Gann one-timed the ball past NSU's Devon Murray after
collecting a pass by Peralta. Nikola
Bogdanovic was also credited with an assist.
Gary Duran capitalized on a penalty kick to
extend the ORU lead to 4-0 at the 66:43 mark. ORU was attacking the
NSU net when sophomore
Michael Lind was taken down in the box by a
NSU defender, resulting in a penalty kick.
Andrew Techanchuk had a solid game in the net for
ORU, posting five saves for his first shutout of his career. NSU's
Murray had six saves, while facing 24 shots.
Chang led the offensive assault by the Golden Eagles with six
shots, two on-goal. In all, ORU held a 24-17 advantage in shots,
while seven Golden Eagles had at least two shots.
ORU returns to conference play this weekend, hosting IPFW on
Saturday at the ORU Soccer Complex. The match is slated to start at
7 p.m.
