TULSA, Okla. Oral Roberts
University men's soccer team dropped a non-conference match against
Central Arkansas, 2-0, on Monday night at the ORU Soccer
Complex.
The first half was scoreless, but
ORU (5-8-3) went a man down for the rest of the match when senior
defender Brian Beckford (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica)
was issued a red card for a hard tackle of a UCA (6-8-2) player.
The card was issued in the 41st minute.
At the end of the first half, both
ORU and UCA had five shots with the Bears holding a 2-0 advantage
on corner kicks.
Central Arkansas took advantage of
the man advantage in the 52nd minute. UCA's Matt Marlin received a
pass from Nick Hankins and buried his shot in the back of the net
for the 1-0 lead.
Hankins added a tally of his own
with his fifth goal of the year. The UCA forward played a ball off
an ORU defender and shot it from 30 yards out past ORU's goalkeeper
Carlos Veron (St. Asuncion, Paraguay) for the
insurance goal.
Jacob Schmoker
(Catoosa, Okla.) paced the ORU attack with four shots with two
on-goal.
In all, Central Arkansas out-shot
ORU 13-11 and had a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
UCA's goalkeeper Chris Murphy had
six saves for the shutout while ORU's Veron had five saves.
ORU returns to action on Saturday,
hosting Mid-Con foe Oakland. It will be the last regular season
game for the Golden Eagles, but with a win, ORU could qualify for
the Mid-Con Tournament. That match is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start
time and admission is free.
